About

Hi,

My name is Roo and this is going to be my 4th summer at the amazing Camp Sloane YMCA in Lakeville, Connecticut.

I first started at camp in summer 2011 and worked both in the office and doing all the Media stuff for camp (teaching media to the kids, making videos and taking photos, and running the camp's social media presence). I absolutely loved my role that summer but wanted to be more involved with the kids outside of my lessons, so the following summer (after a year of travelling the world) I left the office, but reprised my media role, as well as taking on the role of counselor, meaning that I had my own tent (yes we live in tents!) of kids with whom I ate, slept and did pretty much everything else in between.

Then for summer 2013 I got a promotion to supervisory staff, with the title of 'Media Director', basically meaning that I did all the media stuff as usual, but without having my own group of kids to look after. This was a fantastic summer, as I had more time available to really get stuck into making some great videos and getting more photos of life at camp than ever before. I also had another member of staff who taught one of the media lessons (the Radio Show) and helped out with getting more photos for our parents to see what their kids were getting up to over the summer.

Me & my co-counselor with my first ever tent of kids... love these girls!
That's really what my role as Media Director is really all about - presenting camp to the world in a way that shows how absolutely awesome it really is. We do this through our own website, our Youtube Channel, Facebook Page and Twitter account, and it's always fun when campers, parents and camp alumni (including staff) get in touch to say how much of a great time they have had at Sloane.

And it really is a great time. Like the majority of returning staff, camp is my favourite place in the world, and I usually spend the rest of my year just filling time until it's summer again! I also work Spring and Fall camps at Sloane, during which time we get camp ready for summer, and take everything down for winter, as well as having schools, colleges and other groups come in for fun team building activities and to use our facilities. I love all 3 of the seasons I work at camp, because it means I get to spend 4 solid months living and working with my best friends at my second home.

I've made some amazing friends at camp.
So as you can see, I'm a bit of a camp fanatic - this summer 2014 is going to be amazing and I hope you all enjoy the ride. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about camp life and I'll do my best to answer all your queries.
